Rick Foster, MD
Dr. Rick Foster is the Senior Vice President for Quality and Patient Safety with the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA). He also serves as Senior Medical Advisor for LifePoint, the Organ Procurement Organization for South Carolina. Prior to joining the Hospital Association, Dr. Foster served as Chief Medical Officer for Trident Health System in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Foster’s primary responsibilities include coordination and oversight of quality improvement and patient safety programs and activities for SCHA and its member hospitals. Dr. Foster’s previous medical administrative experience includes service as CEO of the Carolina Health Group, a provider network management company that acted as the management arm for three multi-specialty IPA Networks in the Coastal Region of South Carolina; and as the Medical Director of Companion Healthcare, the HMO subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina.
Lorri Gibbons, RN, BSN, CPHQ
Lorri Gibbons, Vice President, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina and is a Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ) and a certified Just Culture Trainer. She currently serves as Co-lead and faculty for the Safe Surgery 2015: SC initiative, co-lead for the statewide Final Check Mislabeled Lab Specimen pilot project which conducts probability risk assessments to define processes for risk improvement and Co-lead for the SC Partnership for Patients Hospital Engagement Network. Mrs. Gibbons has provided Just Culture training to over 20 individual South Carolina hospitals and their executive leadership. She has presented Safe Surgery 2015: SC statewide implementation processes at the IHI national meeting, as well as to multiple state hospital associations. Mrs. Gibbons has previously served as state lead for the national On the CUSP: Stop BSI initiative. Mrs. Gibbons manages and oversees all quality improvement and patient safety initiatives for the SC Hospital Association as well as manages the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Team. She is a member of multiple state and national quality improvement professional organizations.
Michael Rose, MD
Dr. Michael Rose is a practicing anesthesiologist, Vice President for Surgical Services at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina, and is a member of the McLeod Health Board of Trustees. He also serves as the Chair of the South Carolina Safe Surgery 2015 leadership team. Dr. Rose's primary administrative responsibilities include management of the surgery division at MRMC and medical direction of the Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program. Dr. Rose has been a member of the medical executive committee and served terms as a medical staff leader including Chief of Staff. In these roles he has led redesign work for the organization's quality and safety program, the hospitalist service, and earned bronze certification for LEAN improvements. Dr. Rose chairs the system board committee on medical staff transformation and physician development.
Ashley Kay Childers, PhD
Ashley Kay Childers, PhD is a research assistant professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University and is partially supported by the Quality and Patient Safety team at the South Carolina Hospital Association. Ashley acts as the eyes and ears for the Safe Surgery 2015: SC team by visiting hospitals across the state to learn about how operating room teams are using checklists. She works directly with clinicians and checklist implementation teams to understand specific needs, strengths, barriers, and possible opportunities for improvement. In addition to the Safe Surgery 2015: SC project, Ashley works on the Preventing Avoidable Readmissions Together (PART) initiative to improve care transitions in South Carolina and is a Southeast Regional Leader for the Institute of Healthcare Improvement’s Open School.
Aunyika Moonan, PhD, CPHQ
Aunyika Moonan, PhD, CPHQ, is the director of quality measurement services with the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) where she provides her expertise in epidemiological and quality techniques to our member hospitals. She develops, implements and analyzes clinical measurement health care delivery systems established to support the work of the quality and patient safety initiatives and reports on patterns of health outcomes and quality of care. Aunyika also provides training for hospitals regarding measuring quality improvement in health care. She is the key contact for the South Carolina quality public reporting site, mySChospital.org and hospital subscription site, The Hospital Performance Dashboard. Aunyika is a liaison for the South Carolina Office of Research and Statistics (ORS), where she works closely with the research staff regarding South Carolina’s health data.
Diana Zona has spent over 25 years working in healthcare, specifically quality improvement (QI) and strategic communications. She recently joined SCHA as the Director of QI Projects. Ms. Zona’s work history includes South Carolina’s Quality Improvement Organization, a health care marketing firm, and a metropolitan hospital association. In her current role, Ms. Zona manages QI projects, serves as the state coordinator for CARES (Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival), and is the SCHA liaison for the statewide Heart and Stroke Care Alliance. She has a BS in Business Administration and extensive experience in healthcare communications. Ms. Zona enjoys outdoor activities with her family. She is married and has a son in college and a daughter in high school..
